Can you see who viewed
your Instagram profile?

Short answer

No. Instagram has never shown who visits a profile, and it doesn’t give that information to any app, so nobody else can show it either. The only views with names attached are stories: the owner sees who watched each one for 48 hours. Professional accounts also get a number of profile visits, without names.

Why the apps that promise it don’t work

An app can only know what Instagram hands over, and Instagram doesn’t hand over profile visitors to anyone. The apps that claim to show them display random followers or people who liked your posts, and many exist to collect your username and password. If one asks you to log in with Instagram, that is what it wants.

What Instagram does show

Who watched your stories, by name, for 48 hours after each one was posted. Who liked and commented. And, on a professional account, Insights: how many accounts visited your profile over a period, with no names.

The myths

The order of your story viewers is not a list of who visits your profile most. “Suggested for you” doesn’t mean that person looked you up: suggestions come from contacts, mutual follows and activity. The accounts at the top of your follower list are not your most frequent visitors either.

The same is true the other way round

When you look at someone’s profile, posts or following list, they are not told, whether you do it from the app or through a web tool. The exceptions are the actions that leave a trace by design: watching a story from your account, liking, following, and messaging.

Looking doesn’t leave a name. Watching a story does.

Opening someone’s profile is invisible to them. Opening their story from your account is not. To watch a public account’s stories without appearing on the list, type the username here.
