How to see who doesn't
follow you back.

Short answer

Instagram has no screen for it. The answer comes from subtracting one list from the other: everyone you follow who is not in your followers list. Both lists are yours, so nothing privileged is involved.

Updated

The subtraction, and why it is the whole method

A follow is one-directional, so your following list and your follower list are independent. The people who do not follow you back are simply the ones present in the first and absent from the second. Every tool that answers this question is doing that subtraction.

Doing it by hand

Open your following list, then your followers list, and search each username in turn. It works and it is exact. It is also why tools exist: past a hundred accounts it stops being practical.

The more useful half of the same comparison

The overlap — the accounts you follow that follow you back — says more than the gap. A network that is mostly mutual is a network of people who know each other. One that is mostly one-directional is an audience.

What not to read into it

Not following back is not a slight. Large accounts follow almost nobody, and plenty of people simply never curate. The number is interesting in aggregate, not per person.

Related questions

Does Instagram have a built-in way to check?
No. The closest is the "Least interacted with" grouping in your following list, which is about activity, not reciprocity.
Do these tools need my password?
They should not. Both lists are public on a public account, and anything asking to log in as you is taking a risk you do not need to take.
Will anyone be notified that I checked?
No. Reading a public list leaves nothing behind.

Compare both lists in one read

Doing it by hand means holding hundreds of usernames in your head. This reads both lists and shows the difference, along with the mutuals.
